Insurgent by Veronica Roth is the second book in the Divergent Series. In this novel the main character, Beatrice Prior, also called Tris, must overcome many obstacles  including trust, loyalty, and love. Insurgent picks up right where Divergent left off; escaping a previous battle. The first characters to come in are Beatrice and her Dauntless group including: Tris, Tobias, Caleb, Marcus, and Peter. The group first finds themselves in the confines of the Amity Compound. Once they arrive there the group meets Johanna Reyes. The Amity help the group recover from the recent battle. But at the same time Tris fights a battle in her head after betraying a friend. As everybody recovers the Eurdite begin to make their way to the Amity Compound and the group finds themselves fighting their way out, leaving, and going further on their journey.

Once on the road again there is still a war going on around them which is centered on finding and destroying all Divergent because some people believe it is dangerous to allow people without a permanent faction to wander around among them. This places Tris and everybody she loves in danger. As the war goes on the Eurdite take control of many main compounds and makes an announcement that unless one Divergent sacrifices themselves up to the Eurdite they will continue to murder more and more people every day. Tris, who seems to have a knack for throwing herself in life dangling situations, decides that she is not going to let the killing continue and sacrifices herself. Much against Tobias’s and others apposing that decision.

Once in the hands of the Eurdite they began doing tests on Tris while trying to find a “cure” for all Divergence. This “cure” would enable Divergents to be controlled. As her imprisonment goes on she is challenged physically and emotionally, especially when Tobias attempts to free her but only gets himself caught. After seriously upsetting the Eurdite leader, Jeanine, she is sentenced to an execution. On the day of the execution Tris and Tobias, with help, somehow escape. Once out the faction less launch an attack on the Eurdite which opens right up into the conclusion.
